Samsung Cellular Phone M620 Upstage - The Music Lovers Cell Phone

When I first saw the Samsung Cellular Phone M620 Upstage I was pretty excited. A double-sided cell phone, on one side the phone itself, including a 1.3 megapixel camera, and on the other a music player with its own screen display and controls! What more could a gadget-loving girl ask for?

The handset is black, slim and fits in your purse neatly. At just under half an inch in depth and four inches in height, space is not an issue and it only weighs 2.5 ounces.

On the phone side of the M620 I found your average Samsung style keypad and controls. There's a toggle control, OK button and separate camera button as well as the standard talk and end keys. The compromise, however, is the very small screen size. It's just big enough to display four icons side by side, and measures only 1.4 inches diagonally, as a result the message text and caller numbers show up very small. The 64k-color TFT screen is bright enough though, and the backlight on the keypad is a nice feature.

All the essentials are there - SMS, Multimedia Messaging, vibrating mode, caller ID - as well as added benefits such as MMS, Bluetooth access and voice commands. The camera is of decent quality for a phone, taking pictures is easy and it has a zoom option. It also acts as a camcorder so that you can record video clips with sound.

On the other side - the flip side - we have the music player. For me, this is the main attraction if you can get over the limitations of the phone set-up. Pressing the flip button on the side of the handset switches you over to the music player - or back again. It takes a bit of getting used to though, and can be cumbersome to keep flipping back and forth.

The best bit about the Samsung Cellular Phone Upstage M620 is most definitely the music player. I love the touchpad screen, and on the music side the screen is much bigger, with a bright TFT display. The interface takes a bit of practice to scroll through the icons, but after a couple of hours of tapping and sliding, I was getting the hang of it.

Adding MP3 tracks to the phone's media was fairly simple using a micro SD card, and you can use the Sprint Music Manager to sync your music from your PC. Listening to music through a Bluetooth stereo headset is essential if you want good sound quality, as the Upstage only has a single speaker - and it's on the phone side!

Another point I need to mention here is the battery situation. The internal battery is not removable, and only gives a couple of hours talk time. The good news is that you also get an external battery attached to the M620's trendy wallet. This doubles as a protective case for your phone whilst at the same time the external battery is plugged in. Ideal!

Verdict: Love the slim, lightweight design of this fab little handset, and the innovative feature of the two-sided interface set-up. The size of the phone side display is a let down, with only three lines of text at a time but I'll live with it. I am not so keen on all the flipping. Although it becomes less of a chore after a while, the dual function of this Samsung M620 could be improved. Whatever else, your friends will be impressed when you whip this little gadget out of your pocket

Hidden Spy Cameras

Hidden Spy Cameras

Hidden spy cameras, or covert spy cameras, are a great way to ensure peace of mind and keep a watch over things. Covert or hidden cameras can be wired or wireless. Wireless hidden cameras have the camera and transmitter concealed, and there is no wire running to the recording equipment. In the case of the wired version, the connection to the VCR or PC will be through a physical wired connection. Wired cameras usually have the advantage of having a ready power supply, whereas the wireless variety will have to depend on battery power.

Hidden cameras are usually embedded into everyday objects such as clocks, cigarette packs, radios, or even plants. You can also get cameras that you can place into any object yourself. If you would like to carry these cameras around, you can get them embedded in variety of commonly used objects such as pens, calculators, mobile phones, buttons, and ties.

Most hidden cameras can be plugged into your VCR or PC straightaway, making it possible for you to have on-line surveillance, if you want. You can also use these systems to trigger alarms or get emails sent to you in case of unusual happenings.

On the technical side, there are a few things that one needs to look at when considering a hidden camera, including the range and whether or not it has wide-angle viewing. Other considerations are its resolution and if it can adjust to varying lighting conditions.

Hidden cameras can be set up to record unattended. Look at unattended recording facilities and the length of time for which you can set up such recording. Finally, have a look also at how easy it is to set up the camera. This could help you in shifting the camera from place to place or even room to room.

A 5 megapixel camera, equipped with Carl Zeiss lens, add to the attraction of the phone and performs optimum role of high-resolution image capturing. A second camera with the phone helps user to take part in a video call. A Maps program with the GPS navigation control helps users to find maps of more than hundred countries. However, added to the glitz and glory of this phone it weighs only 120 gm.

For a Nokia N95 user, the phone with inbuilt 64 MB RAM, 160 MB of internal storage memory, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, uPnP, infrared, EDGE and SIP support, spells multitude functions. And with all these functions on offer, Nokia N95 is in noway less than a multimedia computer, which by virtue of its portability can be carried within a pocket.

Blackberry Battle - The Blackberry Pearl Vs. the Blackberry 8800

So you're in the market for a smartphone, and you've finally decided to take the plunge, and you're down to two fine offerings: the Blackberry Pearl, or the newer, slimmer, Blackberry 8800. Which one will suit your needs and personality best? A quick comparison will tell the tale.

The Blackberry Basics

First impressions are often the most important, and at a glance, these two Blackberries are quite similar. Both the Blackberry Pearl and the Blackberry 8800 feature the distinctive RIM Blackberry candy-bar design, with smooth, rounded edges and chrome accents. The Blackberry Pearl is slightly narrower than the 8800, although the Blackberry 8800 has a slightly slimmer profile. Both smartphones are outfitted with a keyboard, although the 8800's is a full-sized QWERTY keyboard, compared to the Pearl's truncated (but fully functional) SureType keyboard. Both feature a 240 x 260 pixel, 65,000 color display and the new Blackberry trackball navigation (as compared to the jog dial of older Blackberry models).

The Blackberry Pearl: Superior Messaging, Superior Style

Both the Blackberry 8800 and the Blackberry Pearl feature mobile web browsing, with full HTML and one-touch access, as well as multimedia messaging (with an optional add-on plan). Text / SMS messaging and email are also fully supported on both Blackberries. The Blackberry 8800 features RIM's trademark "push" real-time email, and has the ability to integrate with up to ten POP, IMAP, or SMTP accounts. As far as instant messaging is concerned, the Blackberry 8800 comes with Blackberry Messenger, whereas the Pearl adds Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk pre-loaded with the smartphone. If you're a heavy user of Google Talk or Yahoo! Messenger, this gives the Blackberry Pearl a definite edge. The Blackberry Pearl also wins on style points, as it comes in several distinctive colors, including black, white, and a vibrant red.

The GPS Advantage: Blackberry 8800

In terms of office capabilities, both the Blackberry Pearl and the Blackberry 8800 can open Word and Excel documents, PDFs, and PowerPoint presentations that are attached to emails. Both cell phones come with full Bluetooth hands-free support and are data-capable, meaning either cell phone can be used as a wireless modem.

Now that we've firmly established that these two Blackberries have plenty in common, let's talk about where they part ways. The Blackberry Pearl's most immediate advantage over the 8800 would have to be the built-in digital camera. The Pearl's built-in camera phone is 1.3 megapixels, with a 1280 x 1040 maximum resolution, built-in flash, and 5x digital zoom.

However, the Pearl lacks a built-in GPS solution, which is where the Blackberry 8800 really shines. While the Blackberry Pearl can be made GPS-capable with a separate TeleNav GPS receiver, the Blackberry 8800 comes with integrated GPS built into the smartphone. The 8800 requires no extra equipment -- only access to a location-based service like TeleNav GPS Navigator. The Blackberry 8800 also features color maps and text or voice-guided driving directions right on the cell phone, making it invaluable for travelers. (The service does cost extra, $9.99 a month or $5.99 for 10 trips.)

If you're planning on using your Blackberry to listen to music, you'll find either model will suit your needs. The Blackberry 8800 and the Blackberry Pearl both play music and video files, supporting MPEG4, H.263 video formats and MP3 and AAC (iTunes Music Store) formats. Note that while the 8800 will play video files, it can't actually capture any; if you want to watch video on your Blackberry, you can use a MicroSD memory card or USB 2.0 to transfer files to it.

The Smart(phone) Choice

Plainly, both Blackberries have plenty to offer the business or casual user. The Blackberry Pearl's inclusion of a digital camera does aim it slightly more towards everyday use, while the Blackberry 8800's GPS capabilities make it the perfect choice for someone who's on the road a great deal. The Blackberry 8800 is also ideal if your workplace prohibits the use of camera phones. With the rich features available on both models, however, both are excellent choices.

toshiba laptops reviews

Tips When Buying Your Toshiba Laptop

There are many Toshiba laptop reviews on the internet today, however, none of them address the all encompassing question of how exactly do you choose a Toshiba Laptop? The problem with any Toshiba laptop review is that it is looking at a particular Toshiba laptop such as the Toshiba satellite out of context of the rest of the models. As such, many Toshiba laptops reviews have looked at a laptop in it’s own merits without ever having the opportunity to try other models in the range which may be better.

First of all, a laptop is a very personal purchase. People have different needs, and what is good for some will not be good for others. I have seen in more than one Toshiba laptop review mentioning that one laptop is the ‘best’ of the range/series/brand. Such claims are false and cannot ever be substantiated. A few years ago I bought a three thousand dollar laptop with all the bells and whistlers, yet after two months I realized it wasn’t what I wanted – way to big, battery life was way too short, and I just couldn’t be bothered using it for its intended purpose so I bought a new one for half the price. It was so much better, not because of its specs on paper, and not because of what some reviewer had wrote about it, but because it was what I needed. So instead of listening to what is said in a Toshiba Laptop review, listen to yourself for once!

Just remember this, laptops are different than desktops. For most people they have been told for years whenever you are buying a new computer, get the best so it is “future proof”. I don’t believe this is the case and so differ from most Toshiba laptop reviews. It is not about how good it is on paper, it is what it does for you.

As most people know, Toshiba has been making quality notebooks/ laptops for many years and this will continue, but rest assured that if you are buying one now, it will last you quite a few years. Technology is not moving as fast as you think it is. By all means read a Toshiba Laptop review, be educated, but don’t rely on what someone else says in choosing one model against another. Toshiba Laptop Reviews can only tell you so much, more important is your needs, your intuition and your idea of quality (which Toshiba is renowned for).

Dell - XPS M1710 review

Dell XPS M1710 Photograph

The M1710 (N04XPS7) is the bigger brother of the M1210 and, just like its smaller sibling, it's very different in appearance to the rest of the Dell laptop range. It's powerful, too; in fact it's one of the most powerful notebooks currently available. The XPS M1710 has been around for a while but our review sample, the flagship model of the range, is one of the latest with a Blu-Ray writeable drive fitted as standard.

The M1710 comes in two colours - Metallic Black (our review sample) or Formula Red - and, as is becoming for a member of the XPS clan, enough lights to shame a Christmas tree. The design of the notebook is what you could call "funky industrial" with the metallic black lid inlay neatly set off by the metallic silver surround. It's a tough beast as well, with a magnesium alloy chassis, steel lid hinges and thick plastic palm wrests, but weighing in at 5.5kg you won't want to be carrying it around much anyway.
