Nokia E51

Nokia E51 mobile phone

That a mobile phone must be many things to many people prevents there being a single perfect mobile. Instead, it is about degrees of compromise, which can lead to unsatisfying experiences when you want a phone that pretty much does it all. Happily, sometimes it also leads to a phone such as the Nokia E51. Ostensibly a phone for business users, the E51 does everything you would want from a conventional "candy bar" phone before you step into the realm of larger smartphones with QWERTY keypads. Those models have their place for heavy-duty email and much larger screens but the E51 hits the mark in almost every other regard while also looking more chic than geek.

The bright five-centimetre screen is almost as large as the keyboard, which makes the E51 slightly taller than most mobiles, but its designers kept the width and depth in check so the result is a balanced European-style elegance. This is underscored by a stainless steel shell and backing plate, which gives the phone both a professional finish and a pleasing sense of heft.
